Story

Vanaspati — Sanskrit for "lord of the forest," the honorific given to great trees — names this pair of lamps built as a ceramic tree-trunk column. The surface is deeply gouged in bark-like vertical striations glazed in a dark tenmoku, pierced through with irregular cut-outs that let firelight-warm glow escape from within.

Ekadasi Barik's handwoven bamboo globe shade crowns the trunk like a canopy caught in lantern-light. Vanaspati 1 is the quieter of the pair — the bark texture and cut-outs stand alone, without any additional applied surface elements.

Care instruction

  • Dust ceramic base gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth; do not use wet cloth or chemical cleaners on the ceramic surface.
  • The raised cascade elements are securely fired ceramic but should be dusted with a soft brush rather than pressure.
  • Clean bamboo shade with a soft brush, following the direction of the weave.
  • Clean copper-brass fitting with a dry microfibre cloth; use brass polish occasionally to maintain shine.
  • Avoid exposure to excessive moisture.
  • Recommended bulb: LED warm white, maximum 30 watts. Unplug before cleaning.
