Indīvara Sculptural Vase

Indīvara emerges from the deep. The name alone — blue water lily, Sanskrit — tells you what this vessel is about: something that grows in darkness and arrives at beauty slowly, patiently, without apology.

The vessel body is formed in stoneware and fired to a matte charcoal-grey — that particular dark tone that reads differently in every light, sometimes slate, sometimes almost black, always substantial. Through this body, a deep cobalt glaze has been encouraged to bleed and pool in long vertical streaks, not as decoration applied to the surface but as a presence that seems to well up from within the clay itself — light held in stone, colour dwelling in shadow.

From the vessel's crown rises a sculptural formation of organic forms: ruffled, textured, each element individually hand-built and fired into the same dark grey as the body. Their surfaces are deeply worked — scored, impressed, pressed — so that they catch and hold shadow the way coral holds water, the way a closed flower holds light just before it opens. The composition is dense at the centre and reaches outward in a crown that is simultaneously botanical and geological, simultaneously controlled and wild.

This is a piece for the collector who finds beauty in restraint — who knows that the most extraordinary objects are rarely the loudest. Indīvara is dark, considered, and quietly spectacular. It will draw the eye across a room without announcing itself. It asks to be contemplated, not merely admired.
