Story

Pravāla — coral in Sanskrit — names the oldest living architecture on earth: colonies of tiny creatures building, together and over centuries, structures of extraordinary complexity and beauty from the ocean floor upward. The Pravāla Table Lamp draws from this deep-sea world, from the place where light barely reaches but where life has found its most elaborate forms.

The ceramic base by Sarada Rout is a masterwork of sculptural ceramics — a conical form glazed in a luminous teal-celadon that evokes the shallow ocean, the green-blue clarity of water just above a reef. But it is the base of the cone that arrests attention: here, Sarada Rout has applied individual hand-formed sculptural elements in deep cobalt-indigo, each one built up in layers to mimic the branching, clustered forms of coral and sea anemone — those organic architectures that grow slowly, carefully, in perpetual dialogue with the water that surrounds them. The contrast between the smooth upper glaze and the textural, almost alive lower surface is dramatic and intentional: it is the transition zone, the place where the open ocean meets the reef, where the light changes and the world becomes suddenly more complex.

Ekadasi Barik's bamboo globe shade sits above this marine world like sunlight on the ocean surface — warm, dappled, filtering through its cross-woven lattice to create an amber glow that brings unexpected warmth to the cool teal-and-cobalt palette of the base. The Pravāla is the most striking lamp of the February drop — a piece for those who want their light source to also be a conversation about craft, patience, and the extraordinary beauty of the natural world.

Care instruction

Dust ceramic base gently with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, taking care around the sculptural coral elements at the base. Do not use wet cloth or chemical cleaners on the ceramic surface. Handle sculptural coral formations with care — they are fired ceramic but fragile at fine points. The glaze will develop subtle character over time. Clean bamboo shade with a soft brush, following the direction of the weave. Clean copper-brass fitting with dry microfiber cloth; use brass polish occasionally to maintain shine. Ensure ventilation gaps in bamboo remain free from dust. Avoid exposure to excessive moisture. Recommended bulb: LED warm white, maximum 30 watts. Unplug before cleaning

The object story

PRAVĀLA celebrates the richness of marine landscapes through individually sculpted ceramic coral forms and a woven bamboo globe. Every surface invites light to reveal new textures, making the lamp as captivating by day as it is after sunset.

Who made it

Each coral element is individually sculpted by Sarada Rout before firing. The bamboo globe is woven by Ekadasi Barik, with the lamp designed by Abhijeet Kaushal.

Handmade & Small Batch

Made in limited quantities by artisans in Odisha, every Aabha lamp celebrates the beauty of slower
craftsmanship. Subtle variations in clay, glaze and bamboo weaving ensure no two pieces are exactly alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aabha table lamps are designed to create atmosphere rather than replace your primary room lighting. They produce a warm, diffused glow that’s ideal for reading corners, bedside tables, living rooms and spaces where comfort matters more than brightness.

For the intended lighting experience, we recommend a warm white LED bulb (up to 30W). Warm light enhances the ceramic finishes, bamboo textures and the patterned shadows created by the handcrafted shade.

Dust the bamboo shade with a soft brush and clean the ceramic or wooden surfaces using a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid excessive moisture and harsh cleaning chemicals to preserve the handcrafted finish.

Each Aabha lamp is individually handcrafted by artisans in Odisha. Natural variations in bamboo weaving, ceramic glazing and finishing are part of the making process, giving every piece its own unique character rather than the uniformity of factory production.
