Sōru Pēnu – Stoneware Sculpture

Sōru Pēnu is the result of an idea that attempts to bring to life Niyam Raja, the God of Niyamgiri in Upendra’s signature totem-like art form. Niyamgiri is home to high-altitude flora and fauna as well as unusually rich wildlife. Upendra borrowed from the pattern of a tamarind leaf to symbolize the flora and the triangles represent Niyam Raja. The curves denote water bodies i.e., rivers and waterfalls and the straight lines at the bottom represent the boundary of the tribe’s habitation.
