Sravantī Laghu Table Lamp

The Sravantī Laghu is the lamp for those who know that the same river looks different at its shallows than at its depths. It uses the same handwriting as the Sravantī — the same bell-form ceramic base by Sarada Rout, the same individual hand-formed sculptural elements clustered at the mid-band before firing, the same transition from glazed upper to unglazed cream lower — but compressed into a form that is quieter, lower, more intimate with the surface it rests on.

The zade-mint glaze of the upper register is noticeably lighter than the Sravantī's deep teal: a morning-light colour rather than a mid-afternoon-water colour, carrying more grey-green than blue-green, the specific quality of light on a monsoon morning when the sky is neither overcast nor fully open. Against this lighter ground, the sculptural mid-band — the same hand-applied rounded forms, the same accretive construction — reads with slightly more definition, the individual elements more distinct against the paler glaze that pools between them.

Ekadasi Barik's bamboo globe shade sits above on the same copper-toned brass fitting — the warm amber glow of the bamboo weave complementing the cool jade-mint below in the same way that firelight complements river water. The Sravantī Laghu's lower profile means the shade is proportionally larger relative to the base, giving the lamp a slightly more top-weighted, lantern-like quality when lit — a different silhouette from the Sravantī, suited to different spaces and different functions within the same room.
