Story

Mauna (मौन) — Sanskrit for silence, the vow of stillness. A single face, caught in the moment after the fire. The mask is raku-fired: pulled glowing from the kiln and smothered in combustibles, so that smoke writes itself into the crazed white glaze and blackens the crown of hand-knotted clay. No two are alike; the carbon tracery on each face is decided by the fire, not the maker. It hangs from a fine wire and throws a deep shadow, so it changes with the light of the wall it lives on.

Care instruction

  • Dust with a soft dry brush; do not wet-clean. Raku glaze is porous and the crackle will hold moisture.
  • Indoor use only, away from steam and direct rain.
  • Handle by the body, not the knotted crown.
