Story

Ratna, Sanskrit for "jewel," represents the pinnacle of the Aabha Lighting collection—a breathtaking fusion of Ember collection Raku ceramics with traditional bamboo craft. This extraordinary table lamp transcends mere illumination to become a collectible art piece that celebrates Odisha's most sophisticated craft traditions in a single, harmonious form.

The lamp's sculptural base is a masterwork of Raku firing by ceramist Sarada Rout. The bulbous form showcases a mesmerizing peacock green patina—those signature verdigris tones shot through with copper, bronze, and charcoal that emerge only through the ancient Raku technique. Each piece undergoes a dramatic transformation through fire, smoke, and reduction, creating an iridescent surface that shifts and shimmers as light moves across it throughout the day. The organic, weathered patina evokes ancient bronze artifacts while remaining utterly contemporary in form.

Rising from the Raku base, a brass collar provides the structural elegance that supports the cylindrical bamboo shade. The shade itself represents master bamboo weaver Ekadasi Barik's finest work—an intricate geometric pattern where each bamboo strip is precisely interlaced to create a rhythmic honeycomb that transforms electric light into warm, honey-toned illumination. The muslin interior liner diffuses the glow softly while the bamboo weave casts delicate shadow patterns on surrounding surfaces.

Designed by Abhijeet Kaushal, Ratna bridges two of BEADS' most celebrated collections: the Ember Raku series known for its unpredictable, sculptural beauty, and the Aabha lighting range celebrated for sustainable bamboo craft. The marriage is seamless—the earthy, organic quality of both Raku ceramics and bamboo weaving creates a visual and philosophical harmony that speaks to slow craft, natural materials, and the alchemy of traditional techniques.

The object story

Named after the Sanskrit word for “jewel,” RATNA celebrates the unpredictable beauty of Raku firing. As warm light passes through the woven bamboo shade, the ceramic base reveals rich metallic tones that shift with every glance, making every lamp entirely one of a kind.

Who made it

Every ceramic base is individually Raku-fired by Sarada Rout, making no two pieces alike. The bamboo shade is woven by Ekadasi Barik, with the lamp designed by Abhijeet Kaushal.

Perfect for

  • Statement corners and consoles
  • Collectors of handcrafted objects
  • Warm evening ambience
  • Homes that celebrate natural materials

Handmade & Small Batch

Made in limited quantities by artisans in Odisha, every Aabha lamp celebrates the beauty of slower
craftsmanship. Subtle variations in clay, glaze and bamboo weaving ensure no two pieces are exactly alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aabha table lamps are designed to create atmosphere rather than replace your primary room lighting. They produce a warm, diffused glow that’s ideal for reading corners, bedside tables, living rooms and spaces where comfort matters more than brightness.

For the intended lighting experience, we recommend a warm white LED bulb (up to 30W). Warm light enhances the ceramic finishes, bamboo textures and the patterned shadows created by the handcrafted shade.

Dust the bamboo shade with a soft brush and clean the ceramic or wooden surfaces using a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid excessive moisture and harsh cleaning chemicals to preserve the handcrafted finish.

Each Aabha lamp is individually handcrafted by artisans in Odisha. Natural variations in bamboo weaving, ceramic glazing and finishing are part of the making process, giving every piece its own unique character rather than the uniformity of factory production.
