Muskan Jain

Story

The Sankha Pendant reimagines the sacred conch shell—that luminous treasure born from ocean depths, whose spiral chambers have echoed with ritual and prayer for millennia. This sculptural statement piece is the second creation in the River Sutra Collection, where designer Muskan Jain explores water's ability to transform simple elements into objects of beauty and meaning.

The pendant's dramatic asymmetrical form captures the elegant curve of a shell's opening, rendered in hand-etched brass with radiating lines that mimic the natural ribbing found on scallop and conch shells. These sun-ray grooves catch and reflect light, creating movement across the brass surface—like water rippling across sand, or dawn breaking over the ocean at Puri Beach.

What makes Sankha truly extraordinary is its cascading strand of freshwater pearls that flows from the shell's curve like a waterfall frozen mid-motion. Seven luminous pearls graduate in size, each one hand-selected for its luster, culminating in a single teardrop pearl that hangs like the last drop from a temple water spout. This cascade transforms the pendant from ornament into sculpture—a wearable meditation on how water carries treasures, how shells cradle pearls, how the ocean gives gifts to those who listen.

The design carries profound symbolic weight. In Hindu tradition, the sankha emerges from the churning of the cosmic ocean, representing the primordial sound of creation—the same conch blown during aarti rituals at temples and shorelines. At Puri's Samudra Aarti, the conch's call mingles with crashing waves, announcing the sacred threshold between land and sea. This pendant becomes a personal talisman of that moment, carrying the conch's blessing wherever you go.

The story

More ornament than pendant — more sculpture than
ornament

The Sankha pendant is the most complex piece in the River Sutra debut. Seven freshwater pearls graduate in size, each hand-selected for lustre, culminating in a single teardrop pearl at the end of the cascade. Muskan Jain designed this piece around the symbolic weight of the conch shell — the same shell blown during aarti rituals at Puri's Samudra, announcing the sacred threshold between land and sea.

Who made it

Muskan Jain — Designer

Muskan Jain's second River Sutra piece carries the most symbolic weight in the collection. The sankha emerges from the churning of the cosmic ocean — representing the primordial sound of creation. Muskan Jain rendered this in brass with seven graduating pearls: one for each note, one for each sacred threshold. Pendant weight 17.44 gm — substantial and intentional.

Pair it with

The statement piece of the River Sutra Collection. Wears best alone — this pendant carries enough visual and symbolic weight to anchor any outfit without additional necklaces. Pairs with Sankha-scale earrings for formal occasions, or with simple studs (Taranga Studs) for everyday wear.

Handmade & Small Batch

Like the rivers that inspired this collection, no two journeys are ever the same. Each piece is individually handcrafted in Odisha using traditional techniques, resulting in gentle variations in texture and finish that celebrate the beauty of handmade craft.
